With over 30 obstacles in a 5K challenging you with everything from wind, height, sliding, climbing, and yes, mud. The MUD TITAN was definitely an experience to remember with friends. I ran the Elite Wave (8:30am) and PLACED 2nd AG, and 19th Overall. I waited about an hour before running it again with my team “Team Dynasty OCR" for fun, and to film the race, enjoy the VIDEO =)

April Luu is no stranger when it comes to MENTAL TOUGHNESS! With a strong background in athletics, and an impressive resume in the military, she has successfully branded herself as a GURU in the fitness industry, and she has thousands of followers to prove it! She has also earned the BRAGGING RIGHTS of being the #1 Ranked, Top Female Athlete in the most brutal Obstacle Course Racing Series we all have come to know as the Reebok Spartan Race. I’m telling you right now, I would not want to get into a hand to hand combat duel with this Spartan Chick, it’s just not going to happen! =)
Wanna know what April sings while she is crawling under barbwire? Read on!
Arnel Banawa: Please state your Full Name, where you are from, and where you currently live.
April Luu: April D. Luu I am originally from IL. and I currently live in Peyton Colorado.
Arnel Banawa: You have some military background, thank you for serving our country proud! I understand that you were active in the U.S. Army from 1998 - 2003, can you tell us what you did? And how has that helped you with your OCR career?
April Luu: I was actually a 92R which is a parachute rigger. I worked at heavy drop rigging site. So I would rig up vehicles and heavy equipment and put them out the back of a plane. I was also Airborne my first duty station being 82nd Airborne Division an d later 10th SFG. I was also the first female to go through hand to hand combat with male counterparts. So, I also was a hand to hand instructor. The mentality I had to have in the military has helped me with my OCR career. The discipline and dedication I have to training stems from that. It doesn’t matter if its hot or to cold out there are no excuses.
The Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) arena is slowly but surely seeing a plethora of elite athletes “coming out of the woodwork”. From mountain runners, triathletes, and even olympians, the sport of Obstacle Course Racing is fast-becoming (for the people who are new to the sport) the most challenging event to ultimately test your true physical and mental grit. No one in the OCR World has ever heard of this mountain runner and former pro cyclist Matt Novakovich until he MURDERED the competition at the most brutal Super Spartan Race held at the Wintergreen Resort in Virginia this past August 2013.
So who the heck is this guy, where did he come from, and what gives him the right to call himself THE BEAR! Let’s find out right now!
Arnel Banawa: What is your Full Name? Where do you currently live?
Matt Novakovich: Matt Novakovich, Anchorage, Alaska
Arnel Banawa: So you have done a few things in your life such as mountain running, cycling, ran XC at BYU among other things, how has this helped you with your new addiction in regards to Spartan Races?
Matt Novakovich: Diversity and broadening my horizons has always kept me interested. I get bored easily and I love new challenges. I find many of us tend to stay in the same rut for too long and by mixing things up I think we accomplish the goal of why we’re here on this planet, more abundantly.
WOD done: Body Beast Chest and Tris + some abs, plyometrics and 30 minutes of spinning. It’s not fitness, it’s a LIFESTYLE. Time for some Shakeology!
